MTV reality television shows are all set up. The fact of the matter is, is that people love to see drama and fights. Just like in the show Jersey Shore. There was more action in one episode than in a person's whole life. All of these people want to be noticed to become famous, that is the only reason people go on reality shows. Once they get on these shows and get noticed, they could potentially have their own show one day, just like New York from Flavor Flav. She was kicked off and then had her own show. For instance, the Real World, how ironic, represents nothing about the real world. People have to go on auditions, the director picks the people who he thinks will get the most attention, so viewers will actually want to watch it, because it is entertaining. I think these shows reflect how society could one day be. Not all people but some could possibly be influenced by watching these kind of shows, especially a younger kid who wants to be cool and fit in. On the other hand, MTV does have shows that are good influences such as Teen Mom. This shows the struggles and hardships of having a baby when young, and how difficult it is to start your life with this major hump in your way. These shows are not embarrassing to watch because sometimes they can be down right hilarious, but other times you feel sorry for them because of how dumb they just looked on national television. The truth is is that reality television is apart of everyones' lives now and whether it can potenially harm our society, it is out there for pure entertainment. They give the viewers what they want to see. You can see all of these shows in detail at www.mtv.com
Kids are influnced by these shows. My two neices will come over and say who they like on the shows and who they don't. They also try to mimic some of the people on the show. I always wonder why do their mother allow them to watch the shows and why do she watch them with her kids?
ReplyDeleteTodays "reality" shows are so over the top and scripted that I don't know how anyone can consider them real or even watch them. But the sad truth is, reality t.v. isn't going anywhere for a long, long time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you for the most part but how can you say that a pregnant teen on tv is good. In my eyes thats just opening a door for other youngers to think that if they get pregnant they get famous
ReplyDeleteI believe that kids are definitly influenced by the way they see people act on reality tv shows. also i believe that it is stupid to have auditions for the show and if they really wanted it to be reality then they wont need a audition.
ReplyDeletelmao who do you know that is less exciting than a jersey shore episode?
ReplyDeleteThe part you said about just getting the fame out of it is very true. I hear people say all of the time that they should make a reality TV show for Dundalk because of the entertainment aspect of it. There are a lot of dysfunctional things that happen in any community, but why highlight the most ridiculous? But think about if these people really were to get a show to to be "entertaining" how would people view or stereotype Dundalk when they've never even been to the area?
ReplyDeleteRemember the industry is all about money. Reality is cheap to produce, can create a lot of buzz, and can be run over and over again. I agree it's not going anywhere for a while.
